President convenes meeting of coalition leaders

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has convened a meeting of the leaders of the ruling coalition parties to discuss the national political situation.

The President will hold consultations with the coalition partners over the issue of appointment of judges and other political matters, sources said.
The leaders of Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have been invited for the meeting.

MQM’s reservations on LG Bill addressed: Malik

Islamabad: All pending issues among coalition partners in Sindh stand resolved as MQM’s reservations over amendments in the Local Government (LG) Bill, especially appointment of administrators, have been addressed, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said. “In fact, there is no more difference of opinion between Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) as both have reached consensus to ensure functioning of the coalition,” Malik told mediapersons at Parliament House, on Friday.

Ajmal Khattak passes away

PESHAWAR: Veteran politician, former president of Awami National Party (ANP) and a well-known Pashto poet, Muhammad Ajmal Khattak, died in Akora Khattak, Nowshera, on Sunday. He was 85.

According to his son Aimal Khattak, his father breathed his last on late Sunday evening after protracted illness. He had been bedridden for sometime due to a host of diseases but was mentally alert.

Toll rises to 25 as six more die

KARACHI – The unabated wave of target-killing claimed another 7 lives on Monday, taking the death toll to 24, in last four days in a vicinity of Orangi Town and adjoining areas. The fourth consecutive day of political and ethnic violence claimed the lives of four more people while miscreants also torched two more vehicles. Target-killings claim 15 more lives in Karachi

KARACHI: Fresh violence has claimed at least 15 lives in last 24 hours in separate incidents of target-killings in Karachi.

The deadly incidents of target-killings continued from Friday night in which two people were killed while some 13 more lost their lives on Saturday.
